Managing Site Files with the BionicWP File Manager

Edited

Overview

The File Manager in the BionicWP platform allows you to securely manage your website files and folders directly from the dashboard; without needing SSH or SFTP access.

Using a secure SSH-based connection in the background, the File Manager gives you full control over your site’s file system in a clean, easy-to-use interface.

This feature is designed to save time, reduce friction, and make common file operations fast and safe.

Where to Find the File Manager

  1. Log in to your BionicWP dashboard

  2. Click on the Site you want to manage

  3. Navigate to File Manager tab from the site details page

What You Can Do with the File Manager

The File Manager supports all essential file and folder operations, including:

Archive Management

  • Create archives (.tar.gz)

  • Extract archives:

    • .zip

    • .tar

    • .tar.gz

All archive actions are handled server-side, so there’s no need to download or upload large files manually.

Why Use the File Manager?

  • No SSH or SFTP required – everything is handled securely within BionicWP

  • Faster workflows – make quick changes without switching tools

  • Reduced risk – permission resets help fix common file access issues

  • Perfect for support & maintenance – ideal for troubleshooting, quick fixes, and deployments

Common Use Cases

  • Uploading or replacing plugin/theme files

  • Downloading site files for debugging or backups

  • Fixing permission-related errors

  • Extracting backup archives directly on the server

  • Cleaning up unused or problematic files

  • Creating folders for custom scripts or assets

Security & Access

  • The File Manager uses secure SSH connections under the hood

  • Access is restricted to your site’s file system

  • Core WordPress files are symlinked and cannot be deleted, helping protect site stability

  • All actions respect your existing site permissions

Important Note

  • Always double-check files before deleting or overwriting

  • For large or critical changes, we recommend taking a backup first
