DNS is not propagating (DNS Issue)

Edited

Overview

DNS propagation is the process through which updated DNS records spread across global DNS servers. This process can take time, and during propagation, your website or service may appear unreachable or inconsistent.

Note: This isn't a BionicWP hosting issue.

Common Causes

  • Recent DNS record updates (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.)

  • Nameserver (NS) changes

  • ISP caching delays

  • TTL (Time-To-Live) values not yet expired

How to Resolve

  1. Verify DNS Records

  2.  Check that all required records (A, CNAME, MX) are correctly added.

  3. Check TTL Values

  4.  Higher TTL values cause slower propagation. If recently updated, allow up to 24–48 hours.

  5. Confirm Nameserver Changes

  6.  If you updated nameservers, the global propagation may take up to 24–48 hours.

  7. Clear Local DNS Cache

    • Windows: ipconfig /flushdns

    • Browser: Clear cache or try incognito mode

    • Try a different network or mobile data

  8. Use Online DNS Checkers

  9.  Tools like DNSChecker or WhatsMyDNS help confirm global propagation.
