Can I migrate a website if I have DNS access but not access to the website?

Edited

Overview

To complete a website migration, we need valid WordPress admin credentials (or a full backup of the site). Having access only to the registrar and DNS records is not enough, since DNS access allows us to point domains but not copy over the site’s files, database, or content.

Step by Step

  1. Check what you have access to:

    • If you only have DNS/registrar access → migration cannot be performed yet.

    • If you have WordPress admin credentials → we can perform the migration directly.

    • If you have a backup file (files + database) from the old host → we can restore and complete the migration.

  2. Provide what’s needed:

    • Option 1: Share your WordPress admin login.

    • Option 2: Share a full WordPress backup from your current hosting provider.

  3. Proceed with migration:

    • Once we have either credentials or a backup, we can copy everything to the new host.

    • After the migration is complete, we’ll update your DNS records to point the domain to the new site.

Pro Tip

If you don’t have WP-admin access but can log in to your hosting panel (like cPanel, Plesk, or another control panel), you can often create a backup from there. This is a quicker alternative to waiting for WordPress admin details.
