How Often Should You Run a Speed Test?

Edited

Overview

Page speed isn’t a one-time job — it should be part of your ongoing website maintenance. Regular testing helps you catch performance issues early, especially after site changes or content updates.

How It Works

We recommend testing your site speed:

  • After installing or updating plugins or themes

  • After making major design or content changes

  • At least once a month, even if no visible changes were made

When testing:

  • Wait a few minutes (10-20 minutes depending on the size of the site) after site changes to allow cache to build

  • Run your speed test 3 times, then average the results to account for variance

  • Use Google PageSpeed Insights — our preferred and only supported tool

BionicWP also monitors speed and applies proactive fixes behind the scenes.

Pro Tip: Avoid testing immediately after a migration or plugin update. Give caching layers time to warm up before measuring results.
