How to Take a Site Live from BionicWP

Edited

Overview

Launching your WordPress site on BionicWP is a straightforward process. By pointing your domain to BionicWP's servers and configuring essential DNS records, your site becomes accessible to the public with the added benefits of performance optimization and security features.

How It Works

Taking your site live involves:

  1. Pointing your domain's A records to BionicWP's IP addresses.

  2. Adding Postmark DNS records to ensure reliable email delivery.

  3. Adding your domain within the BionicWP dashboard.

  4. Selecting your primary domain (www or non-www).

BionicWP automatically provisions an SSL certificate for your domain, ensuring secure connections without manual intervention.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Access Your Site Dashboard

  • Navigate to my.bionicwp.com and log in.

  • Click on Sites in the left navigation menu.

  • Select the site you wish to take live.

2. Locate Your Site's IP Addresses

  • Within the Overview section, find the Site Information section.

  • Note the IP addresses provided; these will be used to point your domain.

3. Update Your Domain's A Records

  • Log in to your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare).

  • Navigate to the DNS management section.

  • Create or update the following A records:

    • @ → Point to the IP address from BionicWP.

    • www → Point to the same IP address.

Note: Ensure both records are set to the correct IP to avoid connectivity issues.

  • An alternative way to update the records for www versions of the domain is to add a CNAME:

4. Add Your Domain in BionicWP

  • In the BionicWP dashboard, Domains sections under the Overview tab.

  • Click + Add Domain button, enter your domain name in the provided field and click Add Domain.

5. Set Your Primary Domain

  • After adding your domain, hit the star button in front of the domain name to make it primary.

  • Choose whether to set the www or non-www version as your primary domain.

6. Add Postmark DNS Records

  • Scroll down in the Overview tab.

  • Locate the Postmark section, which provides:

    • A TXT record.

    • A CNAME record.

  • These records are only generated after you add your custom domain in the domains tab.

  • Add these records to your domain's DNS settings to ensure proper email functionality.

7. Verify DNS Propagation

  • Use tools like WhatsMyDNS to check if your DNS changes have propagated globally.

  • Propagation can take up to 48 hours, but often occurs sooner.

8. SSL Certificate Installation

  • BionicWP automatically installs a free SSL certificate for your domain.

  • No manual action is required; your site will be accessible via HTTPS once the SSL is active.

Note: Once all is done, please reach out to the team via support@bionicwp.com or the chat to ensure the post-live checks are complete.
